Security forces besieged a university in western Iraq after gunmen stormed the university building and clashed with Iraqi forces , while a local official said that about 1300 students were evacuated from the University building to a safe place. Sunni rebels, mainly from the radical Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), have controlled parts of the western province of Anbar since January, fighting off security forces and militiamen loyal to Shiite Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki.
