La noticia se ha dado a conocer gracias a un comunicado de la banda, en la que además de informar acerca del linfoma "en estado temprano" que le ha sido detectado a Iommi, le mandan "las mejores vibraciones.
La noticia llega un año después del fallecimiento de Ronnie James Dio, vinculado al grupo a través del proyecto "Heaven and Hell".
Black Sabbath anunciaron a finales de 2011 que volverían a su formación original tras el fallecimiento de Dio. Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Bill Ward and Geezer Butler estaban ya anunciados en infinidad de carteles a lo largo del mundo.

This comes as Black Sabbath--Ozzy Osbourne (vocals), Tony Iommi (guitar), Geezer Butler (bass) and Bill Ward (drums)--are writing and recording their first album in 33 years in Los Angeles (still set for release this fall) with producer Rick Rubin.
